Lying at the edge of the Kimberleys, Broome is perfectly placed for enjoying the surroundings and there are myriad Broome tours visitors can join in the area. Cable Beach in town is the main attraction in Broome, where you can do a camel ride and go diving and snorkelling nearby.
After taking in Cable Beach, there is a fair bit of sightseeing to do in Broome. There are markets, galleries with aboriginal works and old buildings in town, while nearby Roebuck Bay boasts the Staircase to the Moon between March and October. Those into dinosaurs can check out the dino footprints at Gantheaume Point, which is just southwest of Broome city centre and also comes with Anastasia's Pool.
The fishing is particularly good in and around Broome and there are many fishing expeditions where barracuda, barramundi, tuna, trevally, sailfish, and many other fine specimens can be hooked in the dry season. You can also do boat tours from Cable Beach or Roebuck Bay, yet avoiding December through March is a good idea. The snorkelling and diving is good here and adventure seekers might like to try the Rowley Shoals that lie a fair way offshore and have fantastic coral and fish.
Broome is in a remote spot and is surrounded by lonely countryside, making it especially interesting to those into driving. A 4wd tour of the countryside is a great way for taking in the many gorges and desert scenery and there are plenty of companies here that offer them. You can even do Darwin to Broome tours, also taking in the Kimberleys, or go the whole hog from Darwin to Perth, or vice versa.
Broome is also well placed for day tours to nearby sights, like Fitzroy Crossing, Wyndham, Derby, and the beautiful Windjana Gorge National Park and Geikie Gorge National Park. You can do a boat tour along Windjana Gorge as well as trek along the miles of trails here. Tunnel Creek National Park is a longer day tour from Broome and gets very hot.
